Easing The Transition to Big School
When the time comes for your children to leave Little Holland Nursery, we work with them to prepare them for their Reception year at primary school. This includes not only the educational and developmental skills, but also helping them know what to expect.
Morning registers at nursery, Show & Tell, small group work and other regular activities introduce some of the experiences of school. In addition, in the summer before school, we start talking to the children about what to expect and help them to build confidence ready for the change.
We work closely with the local primary schools. Each school has its own procedure for welcoming new students, but in all cases we provide a summative assessment on each child to the school (with the parent’s permission), which helps the school teachers to continue each individual child’s learning. Some schools also offer visits to the school which we prepare children for, and others send school teachers to visit the children at our nursery.
Over half of our children go to nearby Holland Haven Primary School to which we drop children off and pick children up for our breakfast and after school clubs.
